Religion vs. Gay Rights
One of the biggest court cases of the year was taken to the Supreme Court and it’s a confrontation between free speech and discriminatory rights. A Christian graphic artist objected to designing wedding websites for a gay couple citing it was against her religious beliefs, backed by constitutional rights.
Supporters of the artist say that ruling in her favor means artists —or anyone with an artistic common good or service— should not be forced to do work against their beliefs. Opposers of this ruling say that businesses should not be able to discriminate against a certain population, and that ruling in the artists’ favor would allow businesses to do so.
College financial-aid advertising
Student loans are the most expensive they have been in years. A federal watchdog recently said the information from most colleges in regard to financial-aid packages are largely inaccurate and sometimes misleading. They are now asking Congress to create stricter regulations on how colleges and universities promote their financial-aid packages. This includes being transparent on tuition costs, grants, loans, and other resources available to cover these costs.
Former President Donald Trump, Organization lawsuit
While former president Donald Trump recently announced his run for presidential candidacy in 2024, the Trump Organization trial deliberations continue into its second day. Jurors are weighing the charges against the organization which includes evading personal income taxes from Trump himself and some employees. However, none of the employees have been charged.
